Happy 4th!

Today is the 4th of July! So, I guess I'll start off by saying Happy 4th everyone! (And to my Canadian friends happy Canada Day a couple days late. And if you're from another county.... well happy Tuesday to you! :P)

I've lived in America all my life, so it's easy to take for granted some of the freedoms we have here.

And it seems that most Americans have taken them for granted as well.

July 4th is when we celebrate the birth of our country and the freedoms that it has. It's one of the only times of the year that we think about our freedoms.

Isn't it funny how we have to have a holiday in order to remember something? We have Christmas to remember Jesus' birth, we have Thanksgiving to remember to be thankful, we have Memorial Day to remember the sacrifice of our troops, and we have July 4th to remember our freedoms.

But shouldn't be always have these in our minds? Always remembering Christ's sacrifice, always remembering to be thankful, always remembering our troops, and always remembering our freedoms?

The problem is that they become so common place to us. Maybe we've been saved for a while now so we forget the awesomeness of God in the flesh. We're so used to having certain things done for us that we don't remember to say thanks. We're living on a peaceful side of war, so we don't see the sacrifice our troops give us. We've grown up with the freedoms we have so we don't think it would ever change.

That's why we have special days that remind us - because so many of us have forgotten. But instead of only remembering today, let's try and bring back how amazing all these things are.

Let's be grateful for our freedoms - not just today, but every day of the year. People fought and died for the freedoms we enjoy today. Don't take them for granted. We may not have them in the future.

  2. Amen, Ashley! It's easy to forget how blessed we are as a nation--many times we just complain about what's wrong with our nation, when we have so much for which to be thankful. <3
