The Lord is My Shepherd

My eyes flutter open and I climb out of bed. I throw on some clothing and pull open one side of my curtain.

Light comes flooding in (maybe I slept a little late) and my eyes are blinded for a moment as they adjust to the new light.

And that's when I see it.

The stark beauty of the landscape in front of me.

The green. The yellow. The brown. The blue.

Most people wouldn't say that our yard is pretty. It doesn't have very much grass and there are rocks and mud in places where there's no weeds.

But I think that sometimes it all depends on your perspective.

Can you see beauty in the mess? Anyone can see what's wrong with something that's ugly at first look, but can you go beyond that and see what's sometimes hidden beneath the surface?

Sometimes we miss the beauty of life. We miss the beauty of a flower, a smile, a sunset, a hug.

Because we're so caught up in the big things.

But let me tell you a secret: life is made up of little things too. And often it's the little things in life that we're going to remember.

So, notice the little things. And find beauty in the things that may seem ordinary to you.
anyone can love a rose, but it takes a lot to love a leaf.
it's ordinary to love the beautiful, but it's beautiful to love the ordinary.
