Christmas Day (12 days of Christmas!!)

Hey everyone! So I've been talking a lot about the 12 days of Christmas that Stories by Firefly is hosting. Well, I'm super excited to announce that it has begun! Starting today we only have 12 days left until Christmas. What? Did I just say that? 12 days? That's only a little less than 2 weeks away! Well, let's dive right in to today's post.

Christmas time is a time of traditions. Each family has their own special family traditions. So, I'm going to talk a little bit about some of ours.

#1. Sleeping around the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve.

Granted I don't really do that anymore but it was a fun tradition growing up. It's was always an adventure when you got to sleep somewhere outside of your bed.

#2. Opening a gift Christmas Eve.

JUST ONE. One that you got to pick. Or sometimes it was the Christmas pajamas that you wore on Christmas Eve. Either way it was pretty exciting.

#3. We all get a new ornament to hang on the tree.

Yep. Every year. We have a lot of ornaments as you can imagine. We also give each of our relatives an ornament as well. So our 4 cousins, our grandma, 2 aunts, and an uncle.

#4. Finding the pickle.

My grandma has a tradition where she hides an ornament pickle on the Christmas tree somewhere and then one of us has to find it. We split up into different age groups and whoever finds it gets a cash prize. As you can imagine, it can get a little competitive. :D

So there's four of our families traditions that are incorporated into our Christmas season.

What kind of traditions does your family have? See any that up there that your family does too?

  2. Those sound like fun traditions! (I have a post slightly like this planned for later for the 12DoC.) ;)
We don't each get our own ornament every year, but we always buy one from a 'yearly' collection that has the year on it. Those are my favorite ornaments. <3

    1. They are super fun! Oh you do? That's so cool! I can't wait to read it :)
Ok yes we've done that as well some years. Those can be really fun especially if you have a big family like ours. My mom finds one that has 10 objects and then writes our names on each one. It can get pretty wild some years.
      Thanks for commenting, Livi!

  3. Our family does both #3 and #4! :) One year it took us the whole month of December to find that pickle...only to find that Dad had stuck it on one of our chandeliers. that was the last year HE was out in charge of hiding it! XD To good at it for his own good! ;)
I think there were too many short people in our family to think about looking up that high. :)

    1. You do!? Thats so cool! I've never heard of anyone who has the pickle tradition so it's good to know there's other people out there who do it! Haha wow that's so funny! One year the kids got to hide the pickle for the adults and we put it on a little tree next to the big one and the adults were all looking on the big one. It took them awhile but my uncle finally found it. Good memories haha. Yes well you've got to keep your eyes peeled because you never know what they'll come up with when it comes to pickle hiding. :D
      Thanks for the comment, Rebekah!

  4. I enjoyed reading about some of your family traditions, Ashley! :)
We used to do #2 when my siblings and I were younger, but we haven't in several years. My younger brothers and I also do something similar to #1. Not on Christmas Eve, but sometime during the Christmas season we sleep in the living room by the tree. :)

    1. Thanks for reading Rebekah! Yes we've kinda been slacking on #2 as well. Well hey at least you're getting to sleep around it a little. Although sometimes the Christmas lights can be a little distracting...
Thanks for commenting Rebekah and have a great day!

  6. We used to open one gift on Christmas Eve. It was always soooo hard to decide which gift to open. :)
One tradition that we've had for as long as I can remember is eating Cinnamon bread and Nut bread on Christmas morning. My grandma used to make it and mail us a box (because we live half the country away) with gifts and the special bread. Now my sister makes the bread, and it just wouldn't feel right to not have it on Christmas morning.

The pickle ornament idea sounds fun! Sometimes my younger sisters like to hide little princesses in the Christmas tree and then make the other one find it, but it's just for fun :)

    1. Oh yay I love reading about other family traditions!! Oh yes my little siblings sometimes play games like that where they'll say what ornament they see and the others have to find it on the tree. It can be pretty entertaining to watch! Thanks for commenting Olivia! :)
